Desert Edge Freshman Khamren Aphayavong has been selected the October 2026 Student of the Month for Outstanding Achievement in Innovation.

Khameron was nominated by three teachers, Mrs. Kelly Barton, Ms. Lauren Malone, and Ms. Ginny Rezabek, who shared this narrative:

Khameron demonstrates that innovation is not only about creating something new- it is also about recognizing opportunities, adapting to challenges, and finding positive ways to make a difference.

As a freshman, Khameron has already shown maturity, initiative, and a willingness to grow. When he received feedback about riding his electric scooter in an area where it was not permitted, he listened, adjusted his behavior, and has consistently respected that expectation. More importantly, Khameron regularly looks for ways to contribute positively to our campus without being asked. Recently, when another student spilled a beverage in the hallway Khameron stepped in and helped clean it up simply because he saw a problem and knew he could help.

That same initiative carries into the classroom. Khameron maintains high academic grades while taking honors-level courses as a freshman and remains actively involved in his school community. He demonstrates the kind of innovative mindset we want to develop in our students: notice what is needed, think about what you can do, adapt when necessary, and take action to make things better. His willingness to learn, problem-solve, and serve others makes Khameron an excellent example of how innovative thinking can create meaningful change within a school community.
