Watts of Love
"As the women greet us with singing and dancing, their excitement is palpable. They know their families are about to receive a Watts of Love solar light. Their homes will have safe and sustainable light 24/7. What they don't know yet, is the life-changing financial literacy education & empowerment they are about to be given.
Colleen Malany, International Service Chair, for the Goodyear PebbleCreek Rotary Club has been involved with Watts of Love since 2018. This was her fifth trip to Kenya for distributions. In 2025, Karen Fiorenza joined the travel team to Northern Kenya (NRT) and significantly contributed financially for lights distributed in the 2026.
Karen Gimse, who leads the Student of the Month program, traveled this past March (2026) to Kego Academy/Orphanage (Kenya) with the team where we gave 14 families a light in the name of the recipients of the Student of the Month Award.
There were 7 students from Desert Edge HS and 7 students from Millennium HS whose names were printed on the boxes that the lights are packaged in, then given to a family. The box then serves as a piggy bank for money saved each day by each family to reinvest into livestock, education, and other necessities."
